A pipe organ has been a major
part of the music ministry
in worship, providing beauty in form and sound in the sanctuary throughout
the life of the church. The current classical tracker-action instrument
was designed and constructed by master organ designer Kenneth Jones of Kenneth
Jones Pipe Organs, Ltd., County Wicklow, Bray, Ireland in 1983. It was
constructed, assembled and tested in Ireland, then disassembled and shipped by
sea to New Orleans and then by rail to Hannibal. Mr. Jones and two
associates reassembled, voiced and tuned the instrument. The organ is arranged
with seventeen stops and twenty-one ranks. There are 39 gold leaf gilt visible
pipes and 1,087 additional pipes made from lead, tinplate, copper, and mahogany.
